INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS LVT DRY BACK

Please ensure that the products are completely suitable for the planned use before beginning work – claims cannot be made for goods that have been cut or laid.

Our design floorings undergo a strict quality control procedure that guarantees high-quality standards. If, contrary to all expectations, material problems should be identified on site, these are to be notified before cutting to size and laying. Claims for obvious defects (e.g. colour variations, differences in thicknesses, surface defects, insufficient accuracy of fit etc.) cannot be accepted after laying. If a number of packages of design flooring are being used the contents should be checked for batch-to-batch variation before cutting and laying. When ordering it is imperative that reference be made to the need for a consistent colour-matched delivery with no batch variation. For the installation of our design flooring the national standards and guidelines, technical instructions and accepted rules of the field apply:

  • The execution of floor-covering work is construction work within the terms of the German Construction Contract Procedures (VOB) in line with VOB Part C DIN 18365 ‘Flooring Work’.
  • The minimum requirements of the subfloor in line with the technical regulations in DIN 18560, particularly in Germany the following: BEB publication ‘Assessment and preparation of substrates - installation of resilient and textile floor-coverings’ / DIN 18202 ‘Tolerances in building construction’ / Sanitär – Heizung – Klima ZV publication ‘Interface coordination with heated floor constructions’

SUBFLOOR

Before choosing the appropriate floor-covering it is always necessary to know the on-site type of use and type of existing subfloor in order to select the right and proper flooring. The subfloor must be even, clean, sufficiently dry, free of dust and cracks, and sufficiently load-bearing. The floor layer should, in particular, register concern if these conditions are not met. Further causes for concern are also: insufficiently firm or too porous and rough surface of the subfloor | Lack of cleanliness of the subfloor, e.g. because of oil, wax, varnish, etc. | Incorrect height of the surface in relation to the height of the construction elements | Lack of protrusion of edge insulation strip | Lack of marking of measurement points with heated floor constructions | Lack of joint plan (Source: Commentary to DIN 18365 Flooring work). Furthermore an appropriate subfloor temperature and interior climatic conditions should be assured.

With existing underfloor heating there should be an appropriate heating protocol to ensure the subfloor is ready for the installation of the flooring. Here EN 1264-2 (Underfloor Heating Systems and Components) must also be observed. With underfloor heating floor temperatures of between 18°C and 22°C are to be observed. In the winter months the underfloor heating should be kept at a low temperature for at least 72 hours before the floor-covering is laid, during laying, and for at least 72 hours after laying (see surface temperatures). Rapid or distinct changes in temperature can cause gaps or warping in the flooring.

On uneven surfaces and to ensure a uniformly absorbent subfloor a sufficiently thick layer of a suitable levelling compound must be spread using a raking technique (DIN 18365). Here the instructions of the building materials supplier must be followed.

Priming is always recommended on mineral subfloors in order to bind dust and particle matter and ensure durable binding to the subfloor. In preparation for adhesive application the subfloor must be coated all over with a floor compound of at least 2mm thickness. Before laying the design flooring the room is to be measured and assessed in terms of laying direction and starting point. We also recommend mixing at least 2-3 packages before laying the flooring so that a natural result is achieved. With the planks a sufficicent joint offset should be ensured (min. 30 cm).

To allow for temperature variations an edge joint (5-10 mm) must always be maintained. This is to avoid warping and buckling caused by expansion of the flooring. When laying the elements care should be taken that the planks or tiles are closely abutted but not forced and afterwards are pressed into the semi-wet adhesive using appropriate equipment. The use of a pressure roller is recommended. It should also be ascertained that the adhesive has sufficiently bonded the subfloor and the underside of the floor-covering, particularly that there are no separating layers, instable zones or dust/dirt. After the floor-covering has been placed into the adhesive it is absolutely essential that it be evenly rolled (with a heavy roller (min. 50 kg)) so that the adhesive can become fully functional. Please select an appropriate adhesive and instructions from our current adhesive recommendations. The installed area should only be used after the adhesive has completely set (see instructions of the adhesive producer).

It is recommended that the flooring elements be cut to size using a straightedge or trapezoidal blade to score the surface/wear layer of the flooring. The flooring elements are then snapped "backwards" and trimmed as necessary.

In areas adjoining wet rooms, entrance and exit doors and similar areas, the cut edges of the floor-covering are to be sealed using an appropriate sealant.

INTERIOR CLIMATIC CONDITIONS

The floor-covering must adapt to the room temperature before laying. This requires at least 24 hours acclimation. For installation the room air temperature must not be less than 18°C and temperature of the subfloor not less than 15°C or more than 25 °C. To ensure the functionality of the appropriate laying materials, relative humidity should be > 40% and < 65% and for humidity-sensitive materials (e.g. dispersion-based materials) should not exceed 65%. These climatic conditions are to be maintained for at least 48 hours before laying the flooring, during installation, and also for at least 72 hours after the flooring has been completed. Larger changes in room temperature are to be undertaken gradually in accordance with the usual room climate conditions. It should be ensured that constant interior climatic conditions are maintained throughout acclimatisation and while the adhesive is setting. In the acclimatisation phase not more than 4-5 packets should be placed on top of one another and gaps should be left to the sides.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

Our floor-coverings are provided with a resilient polyurethane surface treatment. This protective surface is important during transportation, but is also effective against potential damage, soiling or staining by impurities during and after the construction phase. After installation work has been completed, final construction cleaning must be carried out. Routine maintenance can involve sweeping, vacuuming or damp mopping. All staining and aggressive substances must be immediately removed from the surface.
